Between God and Me
Get brutally honest with God with the questions below. These questions are great to respond to in a journal. Or use them as a way to get you focused during a time of prayer and reflection. See how what you are going through is really no different than what happened during Jesus' times.
Dear God
If I ever forget how good you've been to me, will you remind me?
—Me
Think about the last time you said, "Mom, you never let me do anything I want." She probably reminded you of a bunch of stuff. When you start thinking God's let you down, that your life is pathetic, God (the Ultimate Parent) will put the memory of his blessings in front of you. You don't even have to wait for him. Start remembering right now!
More to get you thinking
Dear God,
Why can't I have what I want?
—Me
When you think how happy you would be if you just had that one new thing, try praying this way: Thank God for absolutely everything that you do have. Name each thing. Describe the wonderfulness of each treasure in detail, be it your dad's love or the very existence of chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream. Discover the results for yourself.
Dear God,
What do you want me to do?
—Me
Everybody has a job in building God's kingdom. God won't make you guess what yours is. Just ask! And since prayer is a conversation with God, be sure to listen too. God may not speak instructions to you, but if you pay attention to your talents and the chances you get to use them, you'll find your job.
Dear God,
Please help me keep my big mouth shut.
—Me
It might be easier to train a tiger than it is to tame your own tongue sometimes. Ask God to help you focus more on "doing" than on "talking." Request a "to do" list, things he'd like you to do for other people. Opportunities will appear, and you'll be too busy for teasing and gossiping. That's God's tongue-taming plan.
